7 Island Activities to Experience at Miavana

EXPLORE THE ISLAND

Whilst there are plenty activities to do in the water, in the sky and on the surrounding islands – there really is no need to leave Miavana. Hop on your bicycle, a quad motorbike or explore on foot and discover all that this place has to offer. Walk along vast beaches that seem to have no end, meet the local communities, perhaps tour the nursery or embark on a guided walk to find the islands’ resident lemurs. Wrap up your day with sundowners on the top of the lighthouse with 360-degree views of the island and beyond.

VISIT NESTING TERNS ON MANAMPHAO

Jump on a jet ski or hop on a boat and adventure towards Nosy Manamphao – a nearby deserted island home to one of the largest nesting tern sites in the Indian Ocean. Between 40 – 90 000 Sooty Terns arrive each year around June through until October. End this one of a kind experience with a private picnic set up on the beach.

FISH IN THE RICH AND DIVERSE REEFS OF THE ARCHIPELAGO

Set out at sunrise, across glassy water, to spend the day fishing out at sea. With roughly 175 species of marine fish in the area, this is the perfect place to try your hand at catch and release deep sea fishing, jigging, popping, trolling or fly fishing on the reef flats. Expect to find sailfish, marlin, mahi mahi, giant trevally, dogtooth tuna and barracuda.

GET KITTED OUT AT THE ACTIVITIES CENTRE

Whether you’re looking to explore marine paradise with a scuba dive or grab snorkeling gear to keep throughout your stay – the activities centre is your go-to. You will find equipment for a range of exciting water sports including kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, surf-skiing, wake boarding, kitesurfing and windsurfing. The list of activities is endless, but this is a good place to start. Make sure to visit the gym and the yoga deck for the most picturesque workouts imaginable.

TAKE TO THE SKY

If the scenic helicopter ride in had you wanting more – take to the sky with another helicopter excursion and discover the weird and wonderful geographical layout of Madagascar. Snorkel from the air, as Alexandra Fuller puts it, and spot marine life in the ocean below. Visit the surrounding national parks and take guided nature walks to discover the caves, Tsingy rock and a host of wildlife including several types of lemur species. Maybe you’re looking for lunch on top of a mountain or to cast a line from the shores of an untouched beach – the sky is the limit.
